Been quiet, but I will be back!

I just wanted to post a quick note to let everyone know that I have not disappeared, and I am not going anywhere. I am currently completing my post graduate studies this year, and have been too busy to spend time on this blog. But I do have BIG plans for it, and want to provide a lot more content! So, don’t fear, I will be back! 🙂

Chely Wright is Free

Once again, I am posting late compared to most web buzz, but I wanted to share this too. Chely Wright, who is an American Country artist, also born in Kansas (as was Jennifer Knapp) has come out as a lesbian. This makes her the first major country singer to publicly come out. Trust me, this is big!

Chely appeared on Oprah last week, discussing her story. She speaks of how she has felt trapped her whole life, knowing she way gay, but knowing she could not come out. Chely, who is Christian, was taught from a young age, that homosexuality is a sin, associated with drunkard, thief, and adulterer. One of the most amazing parts on the Oprah episode are the words of her father.

Check out the Oprah interview:

Chely has released a new album, and her autobiography titled “Like Me”.

Chely is standing for an important message to all… “people are being told they are damaged goods, but they are not!”. Chely wants to help others to stop living a lie.

Thank you Chely Wright for standing up, and speaking out.

Jennifer Knapp is Awesome!

Jennifer Knapp

Jennifer Knapp

So, this is old news already, but I wanted to have my say. Christian musician Jennifer Knapp is back on the music scene, and has come out as a lesbian. This naturally caused a major media flurry, as the once Grammy nominated, Dove Award winning Christian artist, bravely re-enters the music scene after +-8 years, horrifying many of her previous fan base by her announcement! See the 4 part Larry King Live interview on youtube.

I used to listen to Jennifer Knapp in the late 90’s, early 2000’s. I always enjoyed her music, and the vibe or attitude her music had. I personally am ecstatic about her being back on the music scene, as well as being brave in coming out. What is MOST impressive about this though, is that she stands firm on her beliefs. She is not attempting to avoid her Christian fans. She boldly states that she IS a person of faith, and I know that this is a very real part of her.

Her new music is not specifically marketed to Christian markets, but it is sad that people would actually stop listening to her music because she is gay. Many Christians are saying how sad they are that she has chosen a path of sin, many are throwing the clobber passages at her, many are rude, harsh, and showing no signs of Christ in them as they throw stones at Jen. Thankfully, there are many of us who are behind her 100%. Standing up and asking those who judge to move on.

Her newest album “Letting Go” was released earlier this month, and seems to be doing well on the charts so far. I’ve been listening to it online… but definitely going to get myself a copy! It’s AWESOME!

Go Jen! Stand firm, you are a beautiful child of God! 🙂

Will Phillips (age 10) takes a stand for gay rights

Will Phillips, age 10, refused to stand and pledge allegiance to his country until gays and lesbians are legally allowed marry! Wow, what an inspiration!

Will Phillips for president! 🙂

Real Christianity – a refreshing sermon from Bayside Church

This is a sermon that I found so encouraging. It’s the kind of message that I wish more Christians (gay and straight) could hear. It is refreshing to know that there are churches out there who are challenging the way the church has treated homosexuals, and helping people to really think and understand what it really means to be gay.

This message is not about whether it is wrong or right to live in a loving, committed, long term, monogamous, Christian same-sex relationship, but rather how the Church (Christian people) should treat homosexual people. Thank you to Pastor Rob Buckingham for sharing this message.

Please listen to this message, and pass it along to people you think may be encouraged or challenged.

Misty Irons: A Shining Example of a Straight Christian

Misty Irons is a straight, married with kids, evangelical Christian, but her attitude towards the LGBT community is a shining example to all! I had not heard of or come across Misty Irons or her writings before, but for years, she has been writing about the controversial topic of homosexuality and the Bible.

Misty has done what I believe ALL straight people should do.. and that is to step aside from our “built-in” beliefs and assumptions of what it means to be gay, and truly look at what it really means. She is one of what appears to be very few straight Christians out there, who has come to a real understanding of what it really means to be gay. In doing this, Misty does not judge, but has great compassion for the LGBT community. She has not compromised her faith in God, but rather (in my opinion) done exactly what Jesus would do in her love for God and all of His people in this world.

Listen to Misty Irons on the latest edition of GCN Radio.

FYI: Another New Site for SA Lesbians!

I wanted to share some more “Les-Link-Love”, and let you know about another cool site I recently came across! Les Loveground is a new site specifically for South African Lesbians and Bisexual women! Wooohooo.. it looks to be a promising place to hang out, chat, meet people, etc.. both online and offline! 🙂 Check out the Events section for group meetups!

More Links

I’ve added a new Local link category in addition to the Gay Christian link category. Here you will find links I add to South African blogs and resources. The first being Cape Town Lesbians (CTL).

Also, I have added a link to the Good Hope Metropolitan Community Church for those who would like to attend an accepting / inclusive church. I have not (yet) visited this church, so I cannot give any personal opinion on it.

Lastly, Melanie Lowe is someone I have always thought was “like me”! 🙂 She’s awesome, and I have a lot of respect for her. I was very sad to miss her recent Living the Truth tour! 🙁

Enjoy, and please don’t forget, if you’re browsing around this site and have something to say, I would love to hear from you!

Gay Christian Links and Resources

I’ve added a few links to the right column so far. More will be added over time.

I wanted to say though, that this blog is not about me trying to convince anyone of “truth”. I believe we are each responsible before God for our own lives. I do believe people should research and study and discover ALL points of view on subjects before finding their peace with what they believe. It may be that some of the links provided here are very much one-sided in their beliefs, but I will try to provide balance.

Some specifics to look at:

  • Gay Christian Network (GCN): This is probably the biggest and most well known Gay Christian organisation. I’d like to highlight their “Great Debate” resource for those who are searching. Justin (Side A) believes God blesses gay marriage, while Ron (Side B) believes Gay Christians are called to celibacy.
  • Soulforce.org: This site has some good resources on interpreting the Bible, as well as other Psychological and Medical points of view on homosexuality.
  • Les Be Pure: I discovered this site which happens to have a similar naming convention to mine (clever peeps 🙂 ). This is interesting, as Kori Ashton was part of an “ex-gay” movement for years, but is now happily engaged to her partner Rebecca.
  • I am a Gay Christian: This site looks to have a lot of good resources. I think it’s still fairly new.

Lastly, I wanted to let you know about an excellent sermon from Gateway Church in Texas.

I hope you find some of these resources useful. As mentioned above, I am not trying to push any belief, but rather encourage research and thought and discussion. 🙂

Les Be Real! 🙂
