Misty Irons: A Shining Example of a Straight Christian

Misty Irons is a straight, married with kids, evangelical Christian, but her attitude towards the LGBT community is a shining example to all! I had not heard of or come across Misty Irons or her writings before, but for years, she has been writing about the controversial topic of homosexuality and the Bible.

Misty has done what I believe ALL straight people should do.. and that is to step aside from our “built-in” beliefs and assumptions of what it means to be gay, and truly look at what it really means. She is one of what appears to be very few straight Christians out there, who has come to a real understanding of what it really means to be gay. In doing this, Misty does not judge, but has great compassion for the LGBT community. She has not compromised her faith in God, but rather (in my opinion) done exactly what Jesus would do in her love for God and all of His people in this world.

Listen to Misty Irons on the latest edition of GCN Radio.

I won! I won!

I’m one of those people who never wins in competitions, raffles, lucky draws, etc. And to be honest, I guess half the reason is because I never enter such things.. unless I really like the prize… like the recent MacBook Pro giveaway on Facebook, or a brand new GTi! Anyways… I rather unexpectedly won a little something this last Saturday night!

A few friends of mine had invited me to join them at “Zee’s WOMEN’S GET TOGETHER” on Saturday. I said, cool, I’ll definitely be there. Come Saturday evening, I was rather comfortably curled up on my couch catching up on some Leverage (TV Series), and thinking driving all the way to Green Point at 10pm was not that appealing! Anyways, I got myself going and went through.

My Prize from Whet Sensuality Emporium

My Prize from Whet Sensuality Emporium

As usual, I recognised a lot of faces, but I am not exactly well known among the local lesbians! A few social lubricants down, and I met a bunch of people whose names I knew I would not remember, and had a good time on the dance floor. When we arrived, we were each given a ticket number to hold onto for the draw later on. Suddenly the lights came on, and it was draw time. A lot of numbers seemed to go missing, and then I heard it… “91”… my ticket! 🙂

I won some Aphrodisiac Massage Oil from Whet Sensuality Emporium! Nice! Thank you Whet and Zee! Now… all I need is a girlfriend to use it with! 😉

We all judge, don’t we?

One of the things I hate the most in this world, is judgement! When people judge others. It is something we have all experienced being on the receiving end of.. especially if you are gay!

But, let’s face it, in some way or another, we are all judges! It seems to be built in to our humanity. Somewhere along the line, our need to compare ourselves to others causes a judgement, and results in a divide. This judgement is almost subconcious. We don’t realise how often we do in fact judge others. I think it’s possibly less obvious in circumstances whereby the general population might agree with your view. READ MORE…

FYI: Another New Site for SA Lesbians!

I wanted to share some more “Les-Link-Love”, and let you know about another cool site I recently came across! Les Loveground is a new site specifically for South African Lesbians and Bisexual women! Wooohooo.. it looks to be a promising place to hang out, chat, meet people, etc.. both online and offline! 🙂 Check out the Events section for group meetups!

The Bible and Homosexuality – will this debate ever end?!

The reality to this debate, is that both sides have very strong points of view. If you are not familiar with these “sides”, take a look at these (as a starting point, there are loads of other places on the web): Soulforce – What the Bible Says – And Doesn’t Say – About Homosexuality and Leadership U – Homosexual Theology. It’s the very reason there is still so much controversy around those who claim to be both gay and Christian. Both sides have numerous theologians, researchers, and other academics, presenting their interpretations and counterviews on the subject.

I for one… READ MORE…

More Links

I’ve added a new Local link category in addition to the Gay Christian link category. Here you will find links I add to South African blogs and resources. The first being Cape Town Lesbians (CTL).

Also, I have added a link to the Good Hope Metropolitan Community Church for those who would like to attend an accepting / inclusive church. I have not (yet) visited this church, so I cannot give any personal opinion on it.

Lastly, Melanie Lowe is someone I have always thought was “like me”! 🙂 She’s awesome, and I have a lot of respect for her. I was very sad to miss her recent Living the Truth tour! 🙁

Enjoy, and please don’t forget, if you’re browsing around this site and have something to say, I would love to hear from you!

Gay Christian Links and Resources

I’ve added a few links to the right column so far. More will be added over time.

I wanted to say though, that this blog is not about me trying to convince anyone of “truth”. I believe we are each responsible before God for our own lives. I do believe people should research and study and discover ALL points of view on subjects before finding their peace with what they believe. It may be that some of the links provided here are very much one-sided in their beliefs, but I will try to provide balance.

Some specifics to look at:

  • Gay Christian Network (GCN): This is probably the biggest and most well known Gay Christian organisation. I’d like to highlight their “Great Debate” resource for those who are searching. Justin (Side A) believes God blesses gay marriage, while Ron (Side B) believes Gay Christians are called to celibacy.
  • Soulforce.org: This site has some good resources on interpreting the Bible, as well as other Psychological and Medical points of view on homosexuality.
  • Les Be Pure: I discovered this site which happens to have a similar naming convention to mine (clever peeps 🙂 ). This is interesting, as Kori Ashton was part of an “ex-gay” movement for years, but is now happily engaged to her partner Rebecca.
  • I am a Gay Christian: This site looks to have a lot of good resources. I think it’s still fairly new.

Lastly, I wanted to let you know about an excellent sermon from Gateway Church in Texas.

I hope you find some of these resources useful. As mentioned above, I am not trying to push any belief, but rather encourage research and thought and discussion. 🙂

Les Be Real! 🙂

It’s Begun!

Ok, so there’s no more messing around – this site needs to make it’s mark now. There is no point in me publishing a site simply for myself. So here it is. Part 1 of “My Story” has been made public again. I have added some social media plugins, so let’s see what happens. I have a bunch of web sites I intend to mention or make permanent links to in future. I am phasing my rollouts a little, so stay tuned.. you are bound to find something useful here! So please… Les Be Real and enjoy! 😉

Getting Ready…

I am getting ready to start pushing this site to the world, and start blogging regularly. I am looking forward to it, and I hope there will be some people out there who find it helpful. If you do, please send me feedback! 🙂

A Bit Torn…

So my current dilemma is in how personal / detailed I make “My Story“. Let me explain…

The reason I started this blog, is because I feel there are not enough people being real out there when it comes to being both Christian and gay, and saying it like it is.. all the struggles, all the pain, and all the joys too! That said, I am also very weary of splurting out things all over the web for anyone to read that are personal, and also involve other people. So, I am currently trying to find the balance between creating something REAL.. something people can relate to.. but also being wise in my openness, so as not to hurt or offend others. I realise this is par for the course when you’re in my situation, but I do try to respect everyone, regardless.

I have made part 1 of “My Story” private again until I come to some resolution on this. It is also why I have not yet officially started pushing this site out there, as I need to know what I am putting out there first. So, if you happen to have found this site, and have a helpful opinion, please let me know, either by leaving a comment, or privately via the Contact page.
